PRODUCTION

For each frame, the production process can take anywhere from 8 to 14 weeks.

The selection of materials is at the heart of L.G.R: only the finest Italian acetates are used to ensure products of the highest quality, durability, and longevity.

It all begins with a sheet of cellulose acetate, a natural material primarily derived from cellulose extracted from cotton plants and wood fibers, which, after a special treatment, becomes acetate.

ACETATE

To initiate the artisanal process of a piece of L.G.R eyewear, 100×70 centimetre cellulose acetate sheets are cut into smaller rectangular slabs which will later be placed in the pantograph to contour the frame’s front.

Subsequently, the rods are cut in a mold with a die. A metal core is inserted into the frame’s temples to guarantee its solidity and resistance.

TUMBLING PROCESS

Once the shaping is completed, acetate fronts and temples are subjected to a 48-76-hour tumbling process.

Small chips of beech and birch wood fill the tumblers, octagonal containers, where their continuous movement will generate a slight abrasion on the acetate items eliminating imperfections and providing a certain smoothness.

POLISHING

Before each frame is polished by artisan hands, expert craftsmen inspect the acetate after the tumbling process in search of any imperfection. Afterwards, each temple is manually mounted and fixed to front with hinges.

The glossy appearance of L.G.R eyewear is due to the hand polishing of every frame.

PUNCHING

Nowadays, lasers are widely used to stamp a brand’s name on an eyewear frame. L.G.R procures that artisanal heritage is constant during the entire production process.

To emboss the L.G.R logo and frame specifications inside the temples, fire stamping is applied. Heated brass characters go through a golden foil, resulting in a neat signature that will shine and last a lifetime.
